Privacy policy
Ghar Connect helps apartment buildings run maintenance: bills and payments, shared expenses, notices, polls, complaints and gate security. This policy explains what information the app holds, why, who can see it and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, mobile number, email address (if you give one) and your flat number, and whether you are an owner, tenant, committee member or watchman.
- Maintenance records: bills, payments you report, and the payment screenshots you upload as proof.
- What you post: issues (with any photos), notices, polls and your flat's vote.
- Gate records: visitors and parcels recorded for your flat, including a visitor's name, phone number, vehicle number and a photo if the visitor agrees.
- Vehicles you register: number plate, model, colour and parking slot.
- App use: when you last opened the app, and a notification token for each phone where you turn on notifications.
We do not collect your location, contacts or card details. Payments are made in your own UPI app, directly to your society's bank account; Ghar Connect never receives or holds money.
Why we use it
Only to run your building's maintenance: raising and verifying bills, sharing expenses and notices, handling issues, and letting the watchman ask your flat before a visitor comes in. We do not sell your information and do not use it for advertising.
Who can see it
- Your committee sees what is needed to manage the building, including payments and screenshots.
- Other residents see your name and flat in the directory. Your phone number is shown only if you turn that on.
- The watchman sees visitor, parcel and vehicle details needed at the gate.
- Tenants see only their own flat's bills and records.
- Service providers: the app runs on Google Firebase (Google Cloud), which stores the data and delivers notifications for us under its data-processing terms.
Where it is stored and for how long
Data is stored on Google Firebase in India (Mumbai region) and sent over encrypted connections. Visitor photos are deleted automatically after 90 days. When you leave the building or delete your account, your profile is removed; payment records that the association must keep for its accounts are kept for as long as the association needs them.
Your choices and rights
- Choose whether other residents can see your phone number (Profile → Privacy & my data).
- Download a copy of your data from the same page.
- Delete your account from the app, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.
- Turn phone notifications on or off at any time in your phone's settings.
- Ask your committee, or us, to correct information that is wrong.
Notifications and the Android app
If you allow notifications, the app uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to tell you about bills, payments, notices, polls, replies to your issues, parcels and visitors at the gate. Visitor requests may ring and appear on the full screen if you allow it in Android settings. The Android app may use the camera only when a watchman takes a visitor's photo, and only with the visitor's agreement.
Children
Accounts are for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will show the new version in the app and ask for your agreement again where the law requires it.
